Lerna Lions starter Jimmy Coates turned in a sterling performance against the Santa Clara Vampires, leading his team to a slim 2-1 win. Earning his 7th save for Lerna was Jeff Roe. The Lions bumped their record to 20-18 with this latest triumph.

The Lions got a big at-bat from pinch hitter Alex Gutierrez. For the game, Gutierrez was 1-1. In the top of the seventh, with the bases loaded, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 7th hit of the season gave Lerna a 2-1 lead.

"It was a good effort all around," said Coates.
