Bird Goes Wild, But Chargers Win
The Topeka West Chargers had to overcome a big game from Derby center fielder Ken Bird to leave Managua HS Grounds with a 15-9 victory. Bird was 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and 2 walks. He drove in 5 runs and scored twice. Reliever Jim Richbourg picked up the win. His record improves to 1-1. Steve Lusk took the loss. The Chargers go to 12-17, putting them 5th in the Pete Rose League Roger Clemens Division.

Jim Jensen aided the Topeka West cause with a run-scoring walk in the top of the seventh. For the game, the catcher went 1-4 with 2 walks.

"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Jensen said after the game.
