The Riverside Poly powered past the Pitman High Panthers, 9-3, at Apollos Ballpark. Nick Puckett went 4-5 with 4 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once, to lead the charge. Mike Millikin, who went 8 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 3 runs on 9 hits, while walking 0 and striking out 4. His record now stands at 2-1. Pitman High has now lost 4 in a row.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the seventh, with the game tied, Cody Gleason was at the plate when Riverside scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Poly to go in front, 4-3.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Puckett. "And not try to do too much."
