Schaefer Excels in Tokyo Yakult Win
|
The Tokyo Yakult Swallows trumped the Chunichi Dragons, 7-5, at Ballpark of Nakashibetsu College. Tokyo Yakult second baseman Brian Schaefer was named player of the game for his performance. He was 4 for 5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Edolf Neels got credit for the win, improving to 2-0. He allowed 1 run on 1 hit in 1.2 innings. The Swallows bumped their record to 25-23 with this latest triumph.
Tokyo Yakult grabbed the momentum in the top of the fifth, when Schaefer, who is tied for 5th in the CL in triples with 2, hit a run-scoring single. His 55th hit of the season put the Swallows out in front, 4-3.
In postgame comments to the Tokyo Yakult Bulletin, Schaefer said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
