The Chunichi Dragons defeated the Tokyo Yakult Swallows, 5-1, in Central League action at Ballpark of Nakashibetsu College, with Chunichi left fielder Tetsuya Toyoda named player of the game. The Dragons, now 26-21, have won 5 in a row.

Toyoda contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Chunichi in the bottom of the second. With his team trailing 1-0, Toyoda took a slider from Noboru Abe and stroked the home run to right. His 10th home run of the season allowed the Dragons to leap in front, 3-1.

Toyoda told a Chunichi Observer reporter that he was "more than satisfied" with the win.
