Swallows Win at Hiroshima Toyo, 9-1
|
The exploits of catcher Tooru Miyahira, who is tied for 10th in the CL in bases on balls with 27, helped the Tokyo Yakult Swallows defeat the Hiroshima Toyo Carp, 9-1. Miyahira was 1-2 with a home run, 2 walks, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Hidenori Tomita got the win, improving to 1-4. He held the Carp to 1 earned run on 3 hits over 5 innings, while striking out 4 and walking 2. Alvin King nailed down his 1st save.
Miyahira had a key at-bat for Tokyo Yakult early in the game. With a runner on 1st, he hit a 2-run home run. It was his 9th home run of the season and gave Tokyo Yakult an early 2-0 lead.
"Enjoyed this one," Miyahira told the Tokyo Yakult Bulletin. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
The Swallows bumped their record to 23-21 with this latest triumph.
