Swallows Win Thriller, 6-5
|
The Tokyo Yakult Swallows downed the Hiroshima Toyo Carp, 6-5, at Rebels Ballpark. The Swallows were led by Shinnosuke Arakaki, who captured player of the game honors. He was 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. The Swallows' win now puts them at 18-12.
Tsutomu Maeda had the critical at-bat for Tokyo Yakult. With two out in the bottom of the ninth inning, he hit a walk-off run-scoring single. It gave Tokyo Yakult the 6-5 walk-off win.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Hiroshima Toyo manager Javier Quintana. "But we decided not to take it."
