Victory Pushes Swallows Record to 8-5
|
The Tokyo Yakult Swallows trumped the Hiroshima Toyo Carp, 5-2, at Frogs Ballpark. Tokyo Yakult center fielder Shi-ping Xú was named player of the game for his performance. He was 1-4 with a triple and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. The winner was Tokyo Yakult reliever Pir Syeda, now 1-1. The loser was Tong-yeop Sen. Matt Stevenson picked up the save for Tokyo Yakult, his 4th of the year.
Xú contributed a big hit, a bases-clearing triple, for Tokyo Yakult in the top of the fourth. With his team trailing 2-1, Xú took a changeup from Tong-yeop Sen and stroked the triple to right-center. His 1st triple of the season allowed the Swallows to leap in front, 4-2.
"Nice to see our side come away with the win," Xú said after the game.
Hiroshima Toyo has now lost 6 straight.
