The Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters got a superb performance from pitcher Tan Ji, but the Saitama Seibu Lions still won the game, 3-1. Ji was named the player of the game despite the loss. He threw 7 innings of 3-hit ball. The win was Kosuke Nakano's in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Tan Ji took the loss for Hokkaido Nippon-Ham. Mikiya Kubo closed the door for Saitama Seibu, picking up his 7th save of the year.
The Lions got a big at-bat from first baseman Takahiko Shimabukuro. For the game, Shimabukuro was 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the top of the fourth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 7th home run of the season gave Saitama Seibu a 2-1 lead.
Shimabukuro told a Saitama Seibu Chronicle reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
Saitama Seibu is now 16-21, Hokkaido Nippon-Ham 21-16.
