Marines Rally to Eke Out Win
|
The Saitama Seibu Lions got a superb performance from first baseman Takahiko Shimabukuro. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Chiba Lotte. The Marines won the game, 7-6. In spite of the loss, Shimabukuro was named the player of the game. He went 2-9 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 2. The win was credited to Yauyuki Kawahara in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Hidenori Iwase took the loss. The third-place Marines improved to 16-19.
This game was not decided until late. With no one out in the top of the 21st, Takehisa Quillen hit a sacrifice fly. The Marines took the lead, 7-6.
"We found a way to get it done," Quillen said.
