Marines Walk It Off for 15th Win of Season
|
The Chiba Lotte Marines wiggled past the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters, 6-5, at Ballpark of Nasu College. Chiba Lotte designated hitter Toji Wakayama earned player of the game honors. Chiba Lotte reliever Kazuteru Kano was credited with the win, to go to 1-2. Wei-sng Mak took the loss for Hokkaido Nippon-Ham. The 4th-place Marines now have a win-loss record of 15-18.
Wakayama had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the 12th. On a 1-0 fastball from Wei-sng Mak, he banged a solo home run to left, giving the Marines a 6-5 lead. It was the 8th home run of the year for Wakayama.
"This isn't football or hockey where you can overwhelm your opponents," Wakayama told the Chiba Lotte Times. "Everyone gets 27 outs and we happened to make the most of them."
