Golden Eagles Stymie Hokkaido Nippon-Ham, Take 5-1 Win
|
The exploits of third baseman Sang-your Choe, who is tied for 5th in the PL in bases on balls with 13, helped the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles defeat the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters, 5-1. Choe went 3-3 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Katsumi Nakata got the win, improving to 1-1. He worked 5.1 innings, giving up 1 run on 5 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 1. Picking up the save was Sofu Oyama, his 1st.
Chotaro Nakanishi went 1-2 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once for Tohoku Rakuten. The 21-year old first baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Chang-se Kim. It was his 10th RBI of the season.
"This level of focus will win us a lot of ballgames," Choe said after the game.
The Golden Eagles bumped their record to 10-9 with this latest triumph.
