The Saitama Seibu Lions beat the Chiba Lotte Marines, 7-2, at Ballpark of Nasu College. Saitama Seibu right fielder Kuniaki Tanaka earned player of the game honors with an outstanding performance. He went 2-3 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs. Even with the win, the Lions have a dismal 7-14 record.

The Lions got a big at-bat from first baseman Takahiko Shimabukuro. For the game, Shimabukuro went 1-4 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. In the top of the first, with the bases loaded, he stroked a grand slam home run. His 3rd home run of the season gave Saitama Seibu a 4-0 lead.
