Hokkaido Nippon-Ham beat Fukuoka SoftBank in a rain-soaked ballgame.

The Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters stopped the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks, 18-3, behind an impressive performance from Ikumasa Shintani. The 21-year old first baseman made life miserable for Fukuoka SoftBank pitching. He was 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and 2 walks. He scored 3 times and drove in 4. The save was Mario Castaneda's, his 1st.

The Fighters got a big at-bat from left fielder Wang Che. For the game, Che was 3-4 with 3 singles and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. In the top of the fifth, with the bases loaded, he stroked a 2-run single. His 18th hit of the season gave Hokkaido Nippon-Ham a 5-3 lead.

"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Shintani. "And not try to do too much."

The Fighters bumped their record to 9-6 with this latest triumph.
