The Lions had to overcome a fine performance from Chiba Lotte pitcher Yoon-tae Pack to grab a 6-5 win at Field of the Chariots. Pack allowed no earned runs over 6.1 innings. Mikiya Kubo recorded his 1st save for Saitama Seibu. Saitama Seibu is still hoping to get on a roll. The win is just their 2nd in 6 games.
Had Jason Gates not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Gates hit a 3-run home run. That made the score 6-5, in favor of the Lions.
"Like I've always said, I'm the straw that stirs the drink," Gates said (again).
