George Washington beat Montreal at Osprey Ballpark, escaping with a 7-6 win. The win in large part was due to second baseman Frank Bates, who earned player of the game honors. He was 3 for 3 with a double, 2 singles, and 2 walks. He scored 2 times. David Walker locked down his 7th save. The Patriots bumped their record to 15-11 with this latest triumph.

Had Greg Coady not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Coady hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 7-6, in favor of the Patriots.

"If we keep winning the close games," Bates said, "we'll be in good shape at the end."
