Grand Island and Derby got after it at Managua HS Grounds.

The Grand Island Islanders defeated the Derby Panthers, 12-6, in Hank Aaron League action at Managua HS Grounds, with Grand Island left fielder Daniel Elliott named player of the game. Grand Island reliever Tom Dorsey was credited with the win, to go to 1-1. Josh Olson took the loss for Derby.

Rich Cook's at-bat in the top of the eighth inning was a big one for Grand Island. Coming to bat with two out, the bases loaded and Grand Island leading 6-5, the second baseman reached on an error by the 3B, driving in 1 run.

"I felt good up there," said Cook. "I saw the ball well."

The Islanders bumped their record to 8-8 with this latest triumph.
