Vampires Stun Tigers, 11-10
|
The Santa Clara Vampires did just enough to secure a 11-10 victory over the Tenafly Tigers at Ballpark of León HS. Nobody did more than second baseman Luis Montemayor, who captured player of the game honors. Santa Clara reliever Rob Sparks was the winner. His record is now 2-0. Nick Dingeldein took the loss. Sergio Sambueso closed the door for Santa Clara, picking up his 1st save of the year.
The Vampires got a big at-bat from left fielder Jose Payano. For the game, Payano was 4 for 6 with a triple, a double, and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the top of the ninth, with the bases loaded, he stroked a 2-run single. His 23rd hit of the season gave Santa Clara a 11-10 lead.
Montemayor told a Santa Clara News reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
Santa Clara goes to 6-8, Tenafly to 6-8.
