Multi-HR Game for Centner in 11-8 Win
|
Getting a good performance from shortstop Ross Centner, the Francis Lewis Patriots defeated the Billings West Golden Bears, 11-8. Centner hit 2 home runs, while scoring 3 times and driving in 4 for the Patriots. Dave Peterson picked up the save for Francis Lewis, his 4th of the year. The defending champion Patriots have struggled a bit to find their groove this season, but improve to 6-7 with the win.
A key at-bat in the game came in the bottom of the eighth inning when the Patriots sent teenager Bobby Shaner to the plate against Golden Bears hurler Norm Diamond. With runners on 1st and 2nd and a whole stadium watching, the kid controlled his nerves and delivered huge, hitting a single off a 0-2 fastball to score 1.
In postgame comments to the Francis Lewis Gazette, Centner said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
