Golden Bears Prevail, 7-6, Over Tenafly
|
Tenafly got a terrific game from second baseman Roland Gibbs. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Billings West, 7-6. Gibbs was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He was 2 for 5 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Billings West reliever Elijah Hall picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Jermaine Williams absorbed the loss. Billings West, now 5-1, is setting the league on fire so far.
Had Jacob Closson not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Closson hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 7-6, in favor of the Golden Bears.
"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Closson told the Billings West Citizen.
