Extra-Inning Win by Lions over Patriots
|
The Lerna Lions did just enough to secure a 4-3 victory over the Francis Lewis Patriots at Ottawa HS Grounds. Nobody did more than pitcher Ray Lewis, who captured player of the game honors. The win was credited to John Ellis in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Dave Peterson took the loss. The Lions keep rolling, raising their record to 4-1.
The result might have been different for Lerna, had it not been for Nate Wakeley. The first baseman produced a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Lions ahead, 4-3. For the game, Wakeley had 1 double and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"The game is never over 'til it's over," said a jubilant Nick Riddick, the Lerna skipper.
