Victory Over Royales Takes Niagara to 31-19
|
The Niagara Stars knocked off the Montreal Royales, 8-6, at Drummondville College Grounds. John Waltenbery, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason Niagara won. The designated hitter went 2-3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Kendrick Nixon got credit for the win, improving to 1-0. He allowed no runs on no hits in 1.1 innings. Rich Neilson picked up the save for Niagara, his 17th of the year.
Bruce Janes went 1-3 with 2 walks for Niagara. The 21-year old right fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. With two out and the bases loaded, he broke a 6-6 tie with a run-scoring walk off Earl Duval. It was his 8th walk of the season.
"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said Niagara manager Don Cooper.
The Stars have an impressive 31-19 record.
