The London Monarchs beat the Kelowna Heat, 6-5, at Brantford College Grounds. London catcher Lonnie Joy earned player of the game honors with an outstanding performance. He was 1-2 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. The second-place Monarchs lifted their record to 14-17.
Dave Howatt, who is rated as the 97th best prospect by BNN, aided the London cause with a 2-run double in the top of the eighth. For the game, the pinch hitter went 1-1 with a double, while adding 2 RBI.
"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Howatt.
