Late Rally by Heat Secures Win
|
Both teams had their chances, but the Kelowna Heat eventually prevailed at Eliminators Ballpark.
Kelowna withstood an impressive performance by Montreal right fielder Christopher Cowley to defeat the Royales, 8-7, at Eliminators Ballpark. Cowley was 3-4 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs. Kelowna reliever Rich Boivin picked up the win, upping his record to 1-1. Tom Girton shouldered the loss.
Jason Leahy, who is the 3rd-best prospect in the Heat organization, aided the Kelowna cause with a run-scoring walk in the top of the eighth. For the game, the first baseman was 1-4 with a home run and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once.
In postgame comments to the Kelowna Herald, Leahy said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
The win gives Kelowna a record of 5-4.
