Capitals Solve Stars, 6-3
|
The Niagara Stars got a superb performance from center fielder John Makeever, but the Victoria Capitals still won the game, 6-3. Makeever was named the player of the game despite the loss. He went 2 for 2 with a home run, a double, 2 walks, and was hit by a pitch. He scored 2 times. Victoria reliever Dave Sonier picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Arvin Fox shouldered the loss. Kirk Winman saved it for Victoria.
The Capitals got a big at-bat from designated hitter Otis Goudie. For the game, Goudie went 1-3 with a home run and was hit by a pitch, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the top of the fourth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 1st home run of the season gave Victoria a 3-1 lead.
"We played a good game and came out on top," said Goudie.
Victoria, now 3-2, has gotten their season off to a good start.
