Demon Deacans Bang Out 8-4 Win Versus Auburn
|
The Wake Forest Demon Deacans defeated the Auburn Tigers, 8-4, at Cypress Quarters College Grounds. Wake Forest third baseman Jim Baker was named player of the game for his superb performance. He went 2-3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. The winner was Wake Forest reliever Austin Sheckler, now 3-0. The loser was Chris Sykes. The save went to Vic Horn, his 11th this season.
The Demon Deacans got a big at-bat from right fielder Bill Goodwill. For the game, Goodwill went 1 for 3 with a home run and was hit by a pitch. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the first, with the bases loaded, he stroked a grand slam home run. His 6th home run of the season gave Wake Forest a 4-0 lead.
In postgame comments to the Wake Forest Times, Baker said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
The 22nd-place Tigers have lost 4 straight games.
