Owls Come Back Late to Clip Bulldogs
|
The Rice Owls topped the Mississippi State Bulldogs, 6-4, with right fielder Shamel Strickland playing a big role. Strickland hit 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice for the Owls in the win. Rice reliever Bob Downard picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Kyle Love was saddled with the loss. The losing streak for Mississippi State has now reached 5 games.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, shortstop John Behrens came through big-time for the Owls. With Rice trailing 4-2, he belted a 2-run home run.
"We'll grab a cold one tonight and go after another win tomorrow," Strickland said.
