Cavaliers Mow Down Hurricanes, 11-4
|
Virginia second baseman Chris Stewart was instrumental in his team's 11-4 win over the Miami Hurricanes. Stewart went 2-5 with 2 runs scored to lead the offensive attack for the Cavaliers. Virginia starter Jason Aves was credited with the win after throwing 82 pitches over 5 innings. His record now stands at 4-1. The Cavaliers bumped their record to 24-14 with this latest triumph.
Stewart contributed a big hit, a grand slam home run, for Virginia in the top of the fifth. With his team trailing 4-3, Stewart took a fastball from Chris Kisner and stroked the home run to right-center. His 2nd home run of the season allowed the Cavaliers to leap in front, 7-4.
"We came out aggressive," said Cavaliers manager Larry Vaughn. "We came out swinging the bats."
