Owls Score Late, Upend Tigers, 7-3
|
LSU got a terrific game from shortstop Troy Herring. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Rice, 7-3. Herring was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He went 2-3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 runs. Rice reliever Jeff Matz was the winner. His record is now 2-0. Dustin Lawton took the loss. The Owls now own a record of 18-19.
Shamel Strickland made it 6-3 in favor of Rice when he delivered a 3-run home run. It came with one out in the top of the eighth. The Owls went on to win.
"Good baseball players make you a smarter manager," said Rice manager Jimmy Naylor.
