Jayhawks Mow Down Volunteers, 11-4
|
Kansas played host to Tennessee at the friendly confines of Brutes Ballpark.
Jayhawks catcher Doug Wilson put his stamp on his team's 11-4 win over the Tennessee Volunteers. Wilson was 1-4 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 5 runs and scored once for Kansas in the contest. The winner was Travis Thomason, who threw 84 pitches over 5.1 innings. The right-hander was charged with 3 runs on 6 hits. Steve Canter closed the door for Kansas, picking up his 1st save of the year.
Cole Lombardo aided the Kansas cause with a run-scoring walk in the bottom of the second. For the game, the first baseman drew 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs.
In comments to the Kansas News, Lombardo admitted he's been told to improve his work habits. "But," he said, "I know when to take it to another gear."
The Jayhawks bumped their record to 23-12 with this latest triumph.
