Welch has 5 RBI, Gators Move to 24-11
|
Gators second baseman Eric Welch put his stamp on his team's 7-6 win over the Ohio State Buckeyes. Welch was 2-4 with a home run and a triple. He scored 2 runs and drove in 5 for Florida in the contest. Florida reliever Steve Paul was the winner. His record is now 1-1. Matt Belcher took the loss. Adam Stoltzfus closed the door for Florida, picking up his 11th save of the year.
Welch contributed a big hit, a grand slam home run, for Florida in the bottom of the sixth. With his team trailing 6-3, Welch took a cutter from Matt Belcher and stroked the home run to left. His 6th home run of the season allowed the Gators to leap in front, 7-6.
"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Welch told reporters after the game.
The Gators bumped their record to 24-11 with this latest triumph.
