Volunteers Get One-Run Win at Wake Forest
|
The Tennessee Volunteers had to overcome a big game from Wake Forest right fielder Bill Goodwill to leave Cypress Quarters College Grounds with a 6-5 victory. Goodwill went 2-4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Adam Sullivan went 5 innings for Tennessee to pick up the win. The right-hander was charged with 5 earned runs. He scattered 6 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 5. His record improves to 2-3. Ben Goodwin locked down his 6th save.
The Volunteers got a big at-bat from designated hitter Josh Enoch. For the game, Enoch was 2 for 4 with 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI. In the top of the fourth, with the bases loaded, he stroked a 2-run single. His 5th hit of the season gave Tennessee a 3-1 lead.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Tennessee manager Mark Ellis.
The 14th-place Volunteers lifted their record to 16-17.
