Detering Helps Tigers Beat Salukis
With left fielder Chad Detering leading the charge, the Auburn Tigers defeated the South Illinois Salukis, 7-5, at Field of the Shield. Detering was 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 4. The win was John Palermo's in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Mike Baker took the loss for South Illinois. The 22nd-place Tigers raised their record to 11-20.

Detering had a game-changing home run in the top of the ninth. On a full count cutter from Mike Baker, he banged a 2-run home run to left-center, giving the Tigers a 7-5 lead. It was the 2nd home run of the year for Detering.
