Titans Come Up Short at Long Beach State
|
The Long Beach State 49'ers defeated the Cal State Fullerton Titans, 3-2. Earning player of the game honors was right fielder Joey McDonough, who hit 2 home runs. The winner was Long Beach State reliever Brian Purdy, now 3-3. The loser was Keon Ford. The 49'ers bumped their record to 13-13 with this latest triumph.
Carlos Torres was 1 for 3 with a walk for Long Beach State. The 21-year old catcher had a key at-bat in the bottom of the eighth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring walk off Keon Ford. It was his 15th walk of the season.
"You get some opportunities, you better take advantage of them," said Cal State Fullerton manager Jeffrey Woodruff.
