Jayhawks Come Back Late, Nip Hurricanes
|
The Jayhawks faced a stiff challenge from Miami pitcher Ezra Bryan, but persevered to claim a win at Brutes Ballpark. The final score was 4-3. Bryan went 5 innings and allowed 1 earned run. The winner was Kansas reliever Chris Mayfield, now 5-0. The loser was Gabe George. Miami is in the throes of a 12-game losing streak.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Kansas left fielder Sterling Maroney, facing Gabe George, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Jayhawks the 4-3 win.
"You get some opportunities, you better take advantage of them," said Miami manager Júlio Santana.
