South Illinois designated hitter Chris Maynard was instrumental in his team's 7-2 win over the Oklahoma Sooners. Maynard, who is tied for 4th in the SBL in total bases with 69, went 3-5 with 2 runs scored to lead the offensive attack for the Salukis. Sean Lawson got the win, improving to 1-0. He held the Sooners to no earned runs on 5 hits over 5.1 innings, while striking out 7 and walking 2. Oklahoma has now lost 4 in a row.

Maynard had a big at-bat with runners on 1st and 2nd in the bottom of the seventh inning, when he hit a 3-run home run. The Salukis went on to win.
