Istre Goes Off, But Beavers Win
|
The Ole Miss Rebels got a sterling performance from catcher Andrew Istre, but the Beavers still prevailed, 16-13. Istre was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He slugged 2 home runs. He drove in 7 runs and scored twice. Oregon State reliever Jim Proehl was the winner. His record is now 1-0. Elijah Cooke took the loss. Even with the win, the Beavers have a dismal 8-17 record.
Had Joe Prager not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Prager hit a grand slam. That made the score 16-13, in favor of the Beavers.
"We swung the bats good throughout the lineup," said Oregon State skipper Mike Cole.
