Golden Bears Shut Out Cougars
|
The California Golden Bears got a magnificent performance from pitcher Erik Teunissen, who stifled the Washington State offense en route to a 1-0 Golden Bears win at Prisoners Ballpark. In 5 innings, Teunissen surrendered 1 hit, while striking out 6 and walking 2. He allowed no runs. Adam Meents was credited with the save for California, his 1st of the season.
The Golden Bears beat the Cougars in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out single Mike Dean produced in the bottom of the fifth. Batting against Washington State pitcher Jesse Meader, Dean gave his team a 1-0 lead when he hit a run-scoring single.
Dean told the California Chronicle: "I was born for the big stage."
The Golden Bears bumped their record to 15-10 with this latest triumph.
