Commodores Shut Out Bulldogs
|
Vanderbilt got a first-rate effort from pitcher John Gayden, who frustrated Georgia hitters en route to a 1-0 Commodores triumph at Ballpark of Barrow College. Gayden, now 1-3, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 6, walking 1, and allowing no earned runs. Picking up the save was Jimmy Gregus, his 10th.
The Commodores got a big at-bat from left fielder Matt Strickland. For the game, Strickland was 1-4 with a home run. In the bottom of the first, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 6th home run of the season gave Vanderbilt a 1-0 lead.
"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," Georgia manager Masayuki Okamura said following the tough loss.
The Commodores bumped their record to 13-10 with this latest triumph.
