Gamecocks Prevail, 4-3, Over Clemson
|
Clemson first baseman Omar Bernardin was sensational. He was 3-4 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 2 runs, but it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. South Carolina beat the Tigers, 4-3. Bernardin was named the player of the game despite the loss. South Carolina reliever Jim Riley picked up the win, upping his record to 3-0. Joe Lowe absorbed the loss. Charlie Maples locked down his 4th save.
Travis Stanford, who is tied for 4th in the SBL in doubles with 8, aided the South Carolina cause with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the seventh. For the game, the left fielder went 2-4 with 2 singles.
"We found a way to get it done," Stanford said.
The Gamecocks bumped their record to 12-11 with this latest triumph.
