Ragin Cajuns Slip Past USC, 10-9
|
Despite a fine performance by designated hitter Chris Whatley, the USC Trojans suffered a 10-9 loss to the Louisiana-Layfayette Ragin Cajuns. Whatley was 4 for 6 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 5. Louisiana-Layfayette reliever Jim Riggs was the winner. His record is now 2-0. Justin Anderson took the loss. Even with the win, the Ragin Cajuns have a dismal 8-15 record.
Brad Minson, who is the top prospect in the Ragin Cajuns organization, chipped in for Louisiana-Layfayette with a solo home run in the bottom of the tenth. For the game, the center fielder had 2 hits in 6 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 2 runs scored, and 1 run batted in.
"The game is never over 'til it's over," said a jubilant Gerardo Torres, the Louisiana-Layfayette skipper.
