The Rice Owls got a magnificent effort from pitcher Steven Townsend, who kept Texas A&M hitters in check en route to a 2-1 Owls win at Sooners Ballpark. Townsend, now 1-2, was the winner. In 5.2 innings, he gave up 2 hits, while striking out 7, walking 3, and allowing 1 earned run. With the win, the Owls have a record of 10-12.

The Owls got a big at-bat from right fielder Shamel Strickland. For the game, Strickland was 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the top of the fourth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 8th home run of the season gave Rice a 2-1 lead.
