Cougars Stymie Oregon, Take 1-0 Win
|
Fans at Crunch Ballpark were not deterred by the threat of rain. They came to see their hometown Oregon Ducks take on the Houston Cougars.
Pete Tolbert pitched well enough to win, but it was not to be. The Oregon Ducks, despite Tolbert's fine outing, dropped a 1-0 decision to the Houston Cougars at Crunch Ballpark. Houston reliever Eric Bogen picked up the win, upping his record to 3-0. Pete Tolbert was saddled with the loss. Greg Kilroy locked down his 1st save.
The Cougars got a big at-bat from second baseman Rob McCleary. For the game, McCleary was 1 for 3 with a home run and was hit by a pitch. In the top of the first, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 6th home run of the season gave Houston a 1-0 lead.
"There was no wiggle room in this one," said McCleary.
The Cougars bumped their record to 13-9 with this latest triumph.
