Maroney Slugs Jayhawks to 6-4 Win
|
The Kansas Jayhawks beat the Florida Gators, 6-4, at Brutes Ballpark. The Jayhawks got a fine performance from left fielder Sterling Maroney, who captured player of the game honors. He belted 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. The win was David Sims's in relief. His record improves to 2-0. Brad Black took the loss for Florida. Chris Mayfield locked down his 7th save.
The Jayhawks got a big at-bat from third baseman Dane Maibach. For the game, Maibach went 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the sixth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 4th home run of the season gave Kansas a 4-2 lead.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Maibach. "And not try to do too much."
The Jayhawks bumped their record to 16-5 with this latest triumph.
