Conditions were not ideal but USC and Arizona were able to put their game in the books.
The USC Trojans faced a tough opponent in Arizona pitcher Mike Sapienza, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Red Wings Ballpark by a final score of 5-2. Sapienza went 5 innings and allowed 1 earned run. Chris Moran earned the save for USC, his 7th of the year.
The Trojans got a big at-bat from third baseman Steve John. For the game, John was 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the top of the sixth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 5th home run of the season gave USC a 3-1 lead.
"I felt we were ready to go," said USC manager Tommy Hayes. "Our pregame was pretty good."
The Trojans bumped their record to 10-8 with this latest triumph.
