Cyclones Bang Out 6-2 Win Versus South Illinois
|
The Iowa State Cyclones faced a tough opponent in South Illinois pitcher Sean Valdivia, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Field of the Shield by a final score of 6-2. Valdivia went 5.1 innings and allowed no earned runs. Iowa State reliever Josh Brolin picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Mike Baker was saddled with the loss. Iowa State has now won 3 in a row.
The Cyclones got a big at-bat from first baseman Jamie Ballentine. For the game, Ballentine was 1 for 3 with a home run and 2 walks. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. In the top of the ninth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 6th home run of the season gave Iowa State a 4-1 lead.
"It feels good to get this one," Ballentine told the Iowa State Daily.
