Wildcats Turn Back Long Beach State, 4-2
|
The inspired effort of Long Beach State right fielder Micah Giovino was not enough to prevent a 4-2 loss to the Arizona Wildcats. Giovino was 2 for 4 with 2 home runs. Chris DiGiovanna picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 1-0. Tony Aaron was tagged with the loss. Even with the win, the Wildcats have a dismal 5-11 record.
The Wildcats got a big at-bat from designated hitter Andy DiBenedetto. For the game, DiBenedetto was 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the top of the fourth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 1st home run of the season gave Arizona a 2-0 lead.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Arizona manager Jeffrey Coffman. "It's usually not just one thing."
