Louisiana-Layfayette pitcher John Newsom did his part in helping his team beat the Oregon State Beavers, 5-1. The left-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. The losses continue to mount for Oregon State, which has now dropped 10 in a row.

Jeff Frost hit a bases-clearing double off Tom Nadeau in the top of the fifth, which put the Ragin Cajuns in front, 4-1. In addition to the double, Frost had 1 single and 1 walk, while going 2 for 4.

"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Louisiana-Layfayette manager Gerardo Torres.
