49'ers Jolt Longhorns with Late Rally
The Long Beach State 49'ers knocked off the Texas Longhorns, 5-3, at Ballpark of Celebration College. Jason Chasteen, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason Long Beach State won. The designated hitter went 2-3 with a home run, a double, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Long Beach State reliever Brian Purdy picked up the win, upping his record to 2-2. Evan Ford shouldered the loss. The 49'ers bumped their record to 7-7 with this latest triumph.

Paul Grotrian had a big run-scoring single for the 49'ers in the top of the fifth inning. With Long Beach State trailing 2-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from Tom Jicha and stroked the single to left. It was his 11th hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the 49'ers ahead, 2-1.

"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Grotrian told the Long Beach State Gazette.
