Crimson Tide Come Up Short at Iowa State
The Iowa State Cyclones stopped the Alabama Crimson Tide, 5-4, at Forney College Grounds. The Cyclones got a big game from Steve Lanier, who was 2-3 with 2 singles and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Iowa State reliever Josh Brolin was credited with the win, to go to 1-0. Dan Spires took the loss for Alabama. Nick Swanson finished the game for Iowa State and earned his 3rd save.

Lanier had a game-changing single in the bottom of the seventh. On a 1-2 fastball from Dan Spires, he banged a run-scoring single to left, giving the Cyclones a 5-4 lead. It was the 15th hit of the year for Lanier.

"It's nice to come out on top today," said Lanier.

The 15th-place Cyclones lifted their record to 6-7.
